Any time a three-pointer is called a "trey." When I see it in print, I stop reading for the day.

  2. Why in the world would you think that? I can't stand Vitale.

Oh, by the way -- there's nothing cool about saying, "Oh, by the way ..."

    Thank you, Chris Berman.

Add this one in, although it's not cool.

    "It's a factor."

    "The wind is a factor."

"The field's condition is a factor."

"The jock strap placement is a factor."

"My bad sex last night is a factor."

  5. Good one TheMethod.

Another great one that has become over-used to the point that I despise the word. I used to think it was cool, too, but like TheMethod said ... even Hollywood stars are using it. It's worn out it's welcome for sure ... and yeah, it makes me angry when someone uses it in quote or in converstaion.

    "hostile environment"

To the jackoffs who use this phrase, try Fallujah, a M.A.D.D. rally or managing the adolescent daughter's first sleepover.

Golf is not, and has never been, a verb.

Please shoot (or smother) if I ever mouth the syllables "Coinkydink," even during my chronic sleeptalking.

"Effort" as a verb. Totally obnoxious.

    Sirs, Madames,

In hockey, "pest" has passed its best-before date. "Power forward" I've always hated -- yet hockey will surely steal jargon from other games. I'm just waiting for the trap to be call the "preeee-vent" or "nickel."

    YHS, etc

YES, ditto on "bigs" in basketball.

coaches started saying it and then players. now media members use it to sound cool in front of athletes. it's pretentious.

    bigs.

plus, it's offensive for post players too all be thrown in this nondescript group called "bigs" as if they are nameless, faceless non-factors.

it's like grouping everyone in the majors who hits less than 20 homers in a season as the "wimps." and speaking of baseball, isn't "bigs" a term for the majors?

baseball had it first, basketball. stop using bigs!

    "Wait for it."

At the point where I want to throw up every time I read it in a column.
