    yup... just when things are melting down in Bham, the best cartoonist in the South leaves...

    As frustrated as a lot of us get on this board with the lack of opportunities in sports journalism, imagine waiting for a chance to move up newspapers' hiring ladder for editorial cartoonists.

    For every one that gets a better job in that racket, there must be 10-20 who get pushed out completely.

    Jeff MacNelly died in 2000. It took the Trib NINE YEARS to fill the position.

    Ah, he sometimes makes a good point. Unlike his conservative competition, Mallard Fillmore, which I think is drawn by Yawn.
