DLH-Vargas was a "mega-fight"? Where? Vargas was already a punch drunk former champion who got completely wasted by Trinidad and couldn't keep his weight down. Vargas was a notch above Gatti at that point in his career and at least Gatti was getting good corner advice.

Floyd fought he last two fights at 147 so saying he's coming up from 130 is pure ignorance since he hasn't fought at 130 since 2001, but not as laughable as Oscar is technically better than PBF. Oscar has no combination throwing ability and doesn't work the body, those are technical aspects of boxing.

Floyd's had three really tough fights in his career, two against Jose Luis Castillo and to a lesser extent the one against Judah (which you are really overplaying for whatever reason) but both boxers had one thing in common. They were good body punchers, Castillo is an exceptional body puncher.

I almost feel like I'm feeding a troll so I'll stop and talk with your brother.

Rok: Did you see this week's 24/7?

Looks at Oscar's overall problems with the good boxers he's faced. Pernell Whitaker was a fight he easily could've lost but he was getting hand-picking judges at the time. He had problems with Whitaker, a smaller fighter that comes at difficult angles and uses body work.

Quartey he wins on majority decision because of a lot of heart and getting a 12th round knockout, but he had problems with the Bazooka jab and got winded midway through the fight.

Two losses to Mosley, the second one is a little questionable, but he was gassed and clearly lost the last five rounds of the fight.

Hopkins he never could figure out his defense, his punching angles and got dropped by a kidney shot. It's not rocket science.

He struggles with boxers, he struggles in fights he can't dictate with a brawl. Like I said, people are overthinking this fight, it's just a terrible matchup for him and he's not in condition to go the distance effectively. He's got a one-punch chance. The only worse fight he could have taken was Winky Wright.

The more I look at this the more I like Oscar.

    Let's check the records:

    ODL: 38-4 (30KO's)
PBF: 37-0 (24 KO's) Note: since moving up to 147 PBF only had 1 KO vs a "light" WW

Hmm, not a lot of punching power as PBF moves up in weight. Nor is PBF as fast as he used to be when he was lighter.

Now PBF moves up ANOTHER weight class (154lbs) against a guy who has fought comfortably one weight class higher then this fight (160lbs).

What almost always happens when fighters move up weight classes let alone several in as many years?

Less power & less speed (see Hatton, Toney, Roy Jones, and now PBF)

Again, word on the street is Oscar is coming in at 170 and is going to muscle PBF bad.

Not looking so great for PBF

Oscar in KO or strong decision

Hmm...MUCH lighter comp for PBF also note the power decline in recent years as PBF moved up in weight.

Yeah Oscar looked real comfortable at 160, he was given a gift decision against Felix Sturm, who's since lost 2 of 5 and he got dropped by a kidney shot to Hopkins. In both fights he was out of breath after the sixth round.

But continue to write these lengthy book form posts of yours that say nothing. Because you know, essays = knowledge. :/

  5. The real news here is that people will actually pay attention to boxing again for a night. Then go back to watching UFC.

    Ha ha, yes that's true.

Did you see Cro Cop get smoked? He is having a tough time transitioning to UFC.

That kick cost Dana White a ton of money on the next PPV with Couture - lol.

Interesting article by Simmon's on the state of boxing.

Does he read these boards? You be the judge.

Also watched the ODL / Mayorga fight.

Oscar destroyed that guy. He took a loot of good power shots and showed solid defense with stiff accurate offense & excellent speed.

@ 154 Oscar is very tough and the left hook was as devastating as ever, but note Oscar mixed in good combos as well (straight right, uppercut, body shots to both sides)

Can Floyd evade &/or withstand that power?

Mayorga did what he was supposed to do. Stand straight and make DLH look good much like he did for Trinidad. Needless to say Trinidad's next fight was against Winky Wright and he didn't land a punch.

    True,

but Winky is bada@@ and real big guy. He has one of the best defenses in boxing.

He also got robbed against Taylor. HBO keeps trying to build him up & he is not that good.

Don't try to discount Mayorga. He had the belt and had serious power as well as a good chin. He did lack some technical skills which Oscar exploited, but many more were unable to due to being on the canvas from his shots.

Mayorga hadn't had a meaningful victory since the fight over an out-of-shape Vernon Forrest. He lost to Cory Spinks, got caught up in legal issues and got knocked out by Trinidad and DLH when he was in desperate need of money. By the time he got to DLH he was a routine opponent with an interim title. Basically a larger Auturo Gatti.
