Too many chiefs, not enough Indians. Most title-heavy paper in America.

Do they really have 10 or 11 deputy SEs?
    Fucking ridiculous.
But I bet none of them is losing his job.

Unless they've got 40 writers, 10 or 11 deputy SEs is a ridiculous number.

Rumor has it that they may have staff meetings today.

Oh no, see, I learned on another thread that this is the way raises get given out nowadays. First you have to get a bogus title, then you can get a raise. That way, they don't have to differentiate productivity and quality of work between folks on the lowly rungs of a newsroom. Plus, by pumping air into some title for yet another shmoe, maybe he or she will look more hireable to an outside newspaper, so this really helps with the resumes and careers.

I opted to spare us all the blue font, of course.

I've now heard the managers aren't necessarily safe.

Orlando has plenty of bureaucracy --- probably too much considering they have a slower pace than most comparably-sized papers. And I doubt that the sports editor is working 60 hours a week, grinding it out. But let's not be silly here. They don't have 10 or 11 assistants. They have 3 listed in the APSE book. And if they have a couple of night slots who have an assistant's title, big deal.

It is summer, but that seems awfully small for an area that size. If it's 5 pages during fall or winter, then I'd really be bitching to the suits.
