Egads. I guess I give the Oregonian credit for publishing the details, even though it's obviously a terrible situation for this guy's family. Hard to argue the editorial page editor isn't a public figure, considering the power he wields within in the city/state.

Anyone think this is a "private matter" and they shouldn't have published the details of his death?

Even if they wouldn't have initially reported the details, wouldn't this force the issue?

What an icky story. Sad for his wife and daughters.

The college student showed better judgement than Ted Kennedy. She dialed 911 even though she must have realized that it could cause her some difficulty.

No, this is not a "private matter."

Shit. That sounds like some PR hack asking for "privacy in this time."

The guy was known. Details are part of reporting the news, real news.

Hate it for his wife and daughters, but this is a hell of a story. Makes you wonder how many years this guy did this with the college lasses.

I'd love to see his editorial archive. I bet there is a wealth of hypocritical positions.

Got to feel awful for his wife and kids. I hope that they at least knew about this detail before it was published so they weren't reading about their derelict husband/father while scouring for the obit.

But I guess that it's better that the Oregonian reports it before a rival does.
