Seems reasonable considering everything else going on.

Journalists shouldn't be the story! Unless we like what they're saying

Our little weekly allows two letters every month, so basically you get a mindless rant every other edition. We have about six regular contributors, one who quotes biblical scripture to support the President, another (member of our church) who blames every current event, including COVID-19, on nuclear power, and still another who vents about how socialists and Marxists are ruining the economy of our little fake German tourist trap town.

They were interesting in the beginning but their schtick has grown old, tiresome and boring. I just read the police reports to make sure my name isn't listed, arrests (could be somebody I know!) and flip to the obits (could be somebody I hope is dead!).

Oh, I hear that one. Our local weekly, in a nice resort town where most have life locked, is full of petulant letters that're complaints about this, that or the other. But then, this is a town where a meeting of, I shit you not, the Aunt Lydia's Cove Advisory Commission ended in a fist fight.

True. I shouldn't have said "fired" and stuck with my original word play of "got resigned."

Apologies but the larger point of a person losing their job because they didn't perform essential components of that job and being dismissed/asked to leave still stands.

And, hats off to The Onion for really crushing this Purple-ish prose ... wait, I've rechecked the URL and have discovered this is real. And spectacular ...

You should post a couple of those op-eds. For educational purposes, of course.

Oh, today's paper was a doozy.

"Removing Confederate memorials wrong. It is my prayer that in the fall, we have a Republican landslide because the President and his allies are the only hope from the socialist, godless left." (Actual quote.)

"The Holocaust could not have been prevented by having gun control in Germany because of the Third Reich. The Armenian Genocide wasn't actually in Turkey because Turkey didn't exist as a country then. Most nations have some form of gun control and they are not exterminating their citizens." (No, that's on the President and Governor with COVID, thanks.)

"Trump is working to protect our nation. President Trump has gone far in his first four years in correcting the direction the Obama socialist -- the liar and chief -- was taken our country. Remember when he said you could keep your doctor and insurance plan? Hardly bigger lies have been uttered by a sitting president." (Except for the current occupant, obviously.)

"Is Black Lives Matter Marxist? Patrisse Cullors is a radical, anti-white Marxist, an advocate for prison abolition AND a queer activist. Could we already be heading for a cultural civil war? This is what the democrats and the left want to use for political gain. Shame on them!"

So four of the six were present and accounted for today. Just missing the anti-nuke lady and the guy whose been debating the gun nut back and forth.
