Says he's tired of the incivility in comments and the shots readers take at him. Nothing new: accusations of bias, mad that he doesn't run TV listings anymore, etc. But retirement seems an overreaction:

His story only has two comments.

I'm betting it's more about his corporate overlords, Lee Enterprises, more than anything. The Bismarck Tribune is the only real counterweight to Forum Communications in North Dakota.

Cute. He builds his article on a false premise gleaned from watching sensationalized movies.

In real life, it pays greatly to be a rat.

    Adios. Grow a thicker skin.

Online comments on our website make me lose hope and faith in humanity and our nation's future, but they do not drive me towards quitting.

No. And if you are going to go out flaming online comments, blasts the ones making fun of fatal car accidents or mocking sick folks or any number of disgusting crap you see on the comments.

Don't whine about stuff directed at you.

    WFW.

Of all the crap that's been heaped on newsrooms everywhere -- especially in the Lee chain, from people I've known who work there -- online comments don't even rate as a minor irritant.

    On a lighter note ...

... somebody get that guy a CD of Permanent Waves or Moving Pictures, pronto! :D

    A distinction without a difference. ;)

Easier said than done. I worked with a guy who wrote something mildly controversial and by 7 a.m. in the comments someone had listed this guy's home phone number, they said where his wife worked and where his daughter went to school.

There are some sick fucking people out there...

Yeah, but the stuff this guy is whining about is the typical crap.
