I can't stand Boston, but they are one of the best-selling groups of all-time. Their biggest hit, "Amanda," came two or three albums later.

Excellent call on the Stone Roses.

    A fantastic album.

The followup, however many years later, wasn't bad.

    But nothing like this one.

And now that I look at it, "Don't Look Back" and "Third Stage" actually both went to No. 1 on the Billboard charts while "Boston" peaked at No. 3. The first album is the highest selling one (thanks to 25 years of catalog sales), but they certainly didn't fall off the map after it.

Don't know if anyone remembers these guys...

Tremendous debut album. Nothing that came after it was even close. (Good live act, too -- I saw them open for Big Country.)

And Huggy, great pull on the Busboys!

I'm not sure of this fits the exact criteria of this thread, but ...

I love Boz Scaggs. He's done some high-quality work. But nothing he did before, or after, remotely touches "Silk Degrees." It's like his Brady Anderson 50-HR season, without the PEDs.

Silk Degrees is a good pull.

Most of the albums mentioned were debuts for the bands/singers. They had a lifetime to create and couldn't pull off anything close with only a year or less to do it.

I will add two more: New York Dolls' debut and Frampton Comes Alive....nothing he did before or after comes close in terms of legacy and sales.

That album is so, so good, and I agree.

Can Midnight Oil be on this list?
