McCartney first met Lennon at a high school concert on July 6, 1957.

I'd say it was more important than Beethoven meeting the piano and Elvis walking into Sun Records. And I don't even like the Beatles!

I thought it was gonna be Elvis and Col. Tom Parker.

If Elvis doesn't walk into Sun Records, Lennon and McCartney have nothing in common.

Michael Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz meet in a soda shop and decide to form a band.

Check the bushes for Mozarts when you walk to your car tonight. Tough bunch, and they're going to have something to say about this.

I've never understood this fascination with the Beatles. I've owned a few of their albums. I enjoy the simplicity of their music. But I still think a lot of talented jazz and blues musicians created rock music. Perhaps I'm wrong. I can't see that I'm an expert on the history of music.

Phil Spector invents the banjo, gives it to Bela Fleck.

More importantly on this date in 1923, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics came into existence as its constitution took effect.

Yeah, sorry, but Beethoven and Mr. Mozart have a little something to say about this, among others. Glad the Beatles got together, glad there's pop music, but music would have survived had Paul and John not met.
