On-camera racial/ethnic joke by Al Roker?

OK, so maybe I do give a damn.

    Anyhoo,

On the Today show today (Thursday), Matt Lauer was giving a report from Dubai and was talking about all the developments in that country (shopping mall that dwarfs the Mall of America, businesses moving because of relatively few taxes, a rotating skyscraper, etc.).

When Lauer talked about an amusement park that will be bigger than Disney World/Disney land combined, Roker remarked, "Wow! Mickey Mohammed!"

No big deal? Funny but in poor taste?

In the day and age of PC correctness, I can see the potential for an uproar (like I've just done).

Now Roker definitely does not deserve the Imus treatment, but is Roker's three-word statement an issue at all?

    Thoughts?

Wouldn't that be the audio version of a Danish cartoon?

Yes - its a racial stereotype. Given that Al was so concerned about what Imus said you would think he would be more sensitive to what he says.
Let's see what kind of balls that Steve Cappas shows on this one.

He'll be fired by the end of the day, and those 2-bit publicity whores Al and Jesse will stay absolutely mum.

He should have to answer to the Muslim equivalent of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson...

Biggest problem? It's a stupid joke. Didn't make sense.

Now, Mohammed Mouse, on the other hand.

I think they're too busy trying to figure out how to kill all of the infidels, not just some big fat guy on TV.

People still watch The Today Show?

Oh, well, time to send Al out and put Tiki in to do the weather.

Isn't Mohammed about the most common name in that part of the world?

True, we don't know for sure that Roker was referring to the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him).
