Which is still closer to London than the sailing and equestrian venues were to Beijing in 2008.

How many events is Michael Phelps going to swim in? (Assuming he qualifies at the US trials.)

    I'd rather watch preseason NFL.

    312.

I hate swimming. Seventeen medals awarded in each gender.

Just pick 4-5 distances, and whoever swims the fastest wins.

Don't need all these disciplines any more than we need track athletes running backward (backstroke) or doing a skip-and-a-hop (breaststroke).

Preseason NFL? That's a low blow. I'd rather watch reruns of King of Queens than preseason NFL.

I would absolutely — ABSOLUTELY — watch a backward 100 meter dash. If we're getting rid of stupid disciplines, the list starts with racewalking.

Minefield gymnastics. A perfect 10 every time -- or else.

well they have triple jump which is basically skip and a hop.

the discontinued events include two-handed throwing. for discuss, shot put, hammer throw and javelin you would throw once left-handed and once right-handed, best total distance won. I'd like to see them bring that back just to see the judges and on-lookers trying to avoid errant left-handed throws from right-handed athletes

While they're at it, bring back tug-of-war too.

There are more events in track and field than in swimming.
