Not to my knowledge. But you know how crazy book tours get.

come clean John, you've got a basement full of clocks and pillows left over from your stint at Ole Miss.

I would think you'd be pleased to hold yourself to the higher standard.

Losing, I suppose, will beat that out of you.

Which brings us back to Ole Miss. A Clarion-Ledger columnist (not named Rusty Hampton) has called for Special Ed to grab the short bus out of town:

I don't think Willie Morris stole any pillows or radios during his tenure as writer-in-residence at Ole Miss, but he sure did drink a lot of whiskey. I was a student when Willie was there, and the parties he had at his modest faculty home near Sorority Row were a blast. Even his beloved lab, Pete (regarded as the world's second greatest dog behind Skip), enjoyed a few sips of whatever Willie was drinking.

Shepherd Smith was getting into the Ole Miss journalism program during my final semester there. I thought he was a mouthy, punk-assed kid.

I'll take Curtis Wilkie over Smith anyday, as well.

Maybe YarYar and the Wildboys will win tomorrow. Most of his players haven't won any games since they played on Fridays in high school. Maybe that'll turn them around.

  8. It does have the greatest book store in the history of the world.

I've spent a small fortune at Square Books over the years, but I'll give the nod to Strand -- www.strandbooks.com -- in NYC as the greatest I've ever seen.

And 2under, I prefer to swipe the desk lamps.

  10. The Strand has a) no rocking chairs, b) no balcony, and c) no beer.
Game, set, match, for me at least.

    Dangerous statement, that.

I'd take Tattered Cover or Powell's.

    Not to mention City Lights.

And Munro's Books in Victoria, BC.

And don't even get me going on the bookstores in Hay-on-Wye in Wales or Shakespeare & Co in Paris.

Shakespeare & Company is the friggin Wonka Factory. Accept no wannabes -- it's not just a bookstore, it's an experience.
