Why is it that it seems like more people die while training to play football than while playing football?

    The Clarion-Ledger's story:

This seems like it could be an enlarged heart or just one of those freak things. Doctors said nothing showed up on a physical last month. And weather was not a factor. The workout was early in the morning at the indoor practice facility. It didn't even sound like the workout was particularly strenuous.

    From the story:
It almost sounds like it could have been an allergic reaction to some medicine.

Far more of a player's time is spent in practice/conditioning than playing.

And in a game, there are only 11 guys (or 22, if you count both teams) running around at any given time. There's also a lot of downtime between plays, whereas in workouts you're busting your ass to the max for several minutes at a time.
