Appeal denied, so it goes to the courts:

It's just as chaotic across the river.
About a dozen years ago in Louisiana (both these teams were from the Monroe/Shreveport area), a fan in an overcrowded gym reached out and knocked the ball out of the hand of a visiting team's player in overtime of a basketball playoff game. The home team ended up winning, and the losing team appealed the result.
The playoff game was for the right to go to the state tournament in Lafayette, and the appeal was denied. However, the LHSAA heard the appeal on the first day of the state tournament. That meant both teams had to travel several hours from North Louisiana down to Lafayette, not knowing whether they would play that night or have to turn around and go back home. Bet that was a fun trip home.

For some reason, I only just recalled a time in Georgia when exactly this scenario did unfold, and the remainder of the game was in fact replayed. It was almost the entire fourth quarter, rather than just the one down, but it's not without precedent.

Can't be arsed finding the original link, if it even exists, but a version of the story is here: http://hbcusports.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-23148.html

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

EDIT: I just found the article online. That is absurd.

On top of that, they're going to play the other 3A semifinal anyway. So whichever team wins that one, gets to sit and wait.

Add in basketball and wrestling seasons getting delayed because of this, and you've got a mess.

Judge says no to replay of game or final minute. The result of the game stands.

After further review... The ruling on the field stands!

I've been waiting a bit to jump into this to see how it would turn out. This is the obvious way it had to go. What a joke. Misapplied rule. Happens all the time. Unfortunate in this situation. The crew should go around the state next year and speak at all officials and coaching clinics about proper penalty enforcement.

Still, this should have been thrown out before it landed with the clerk.

And an easy attack for any rookie lawyer:

When the error happened, did you request a coach-referee conference to challenge the application of a rule? (No)
Were you aware of this rule? (No)
Do you agree this would have been an effective way to address the situation at the time? (Yes)
After the error, was your team allowed to compete in the remaining 64 seconds? (Yes)
Did those plays have an outcome in the game? (No because we didn't score)
So had you of scored on one of those plays, this erroneous play would not matter? (True)
So were there plays before the erroneous one that mattered? (Yes, of course)
Were any mistakes made on one of those? (Well, maybe, yes)
Should the other team be able to sue for those mistakes? (Uh ...)
What about previous games this year, were mistakes made both for and against you? (Well, yes, maybe, likely)
So if every play from every game goes to court and you expect perfection from the officials on every play, are you willing to pay them the same rate you are paying lawyers right now? (An average high school game might be $750 per official).

Oklahoma plays under NFHS rules, which state:

1-1-6: The referees decisions are final in all maters pertaining to the game.
1-1-11: Protests of NFHS rules are not recognized

    The. End.

Yes, that the judge even glanced at this case was ludicrous from the beginning.

Very good points, especially about requesting a conference with the refs over the application of a rule. I've seen coaches approach the officials, going over the rulebook and getting calls reversed.
