    I did, too. When I was in high school. I didn't start running until I was 30 years old.

    I run because I like to run and because I like to compete. I like the sense of accomplishment following a long run. I also have the 26.2 oval tattooed on my leg. Damn right I'm proud of it.

    I don't have any 26.2 stickers or body art. But if I ever do an Ironman, I'm getting something along these lines done:

    Or, as a football player once put it to me as the cross-country team ran past during practice: Their sport is our punishment.

    I know a couple of guys who have smaller Ironman logo tats. My wife has the Life is Good runner.

    My facebook feed bursts every weekend folks yapping about this race and that, yet my dozens of golfer friends don't check in and say "shot 83 at East Bumfuck Muni, feeling strong!"

    It's true, runners sure love to talk about their running.
