I think that was a WWF Pay Per View.

    If wrestling was included...
Slaughter declaring War on the Iron Shiek
Snuka off the top of the steel cage against Backlund
Piper hitting Snuka with a coconut
Crippler Stevens pile driving Snuka three times on a concrete floor.

    A good young Andre match

Nah, it was free TV, on USA. I remember vividly. Hulk fought out of the Cobra Clutch, then point-wagged his index finger to the crowd, which screamed and roared him back to strength, and he proceeded to beat the crap out of the Shiek, culminated with an off-the-ropes jumping leg drop 'cross the chest into a pin. One of my favorite Sunday mornings of childhood.

It looks like you are going for sporting "events" over social changes? I would submit Jackie Robinson's first game, ALi getting stripped of his title for protesting Vietnam, AFL/ NFl merger and Curt Flood and the advent of Free Agency.

Sticking with events:Colts-Giants playoff game Amazin Mets, USA-USSR OLY hockey, Boxing: Balboa-Creed I.

    Sirs, Madames,

I'll take a stab at the most significant in chronological order.

    1. The 1896 Olympics in Athens. (The foundation of the modern Olympic movement)
    2. Jack Johnson taking out Jim Jeffries. (Letting the air out of white supremists. I wouldn't argue if Louis Schmeling takes its place, though no rioting in the streets after that one, and Baer's win over Schmeling sorta filled the same bill.)
    3. Jackie Robinson with Dodgers. (Color bar, natch. I'd put Texas Western in the top 10 but it seems to have some overlap on this count)
    4. Richard riots, St Patrick's Day, Montreal. (Arguably birth of Quebec separatist movement. I'll take either this or 72 Summit Series in its place)
    5. 1958 World Cup (Brazil's/Pele's breakthrough)
    6. The 1958 NFL title game. (Birth of modern era of NFL and marriage to television. Maybe Super Bowl III)
    7. Bikila's win in the 1960 Olympic marathon. (Africa's emergence as a sporting power)
    8. Northern Dancer retiring to stud. (The beginning of the most influential breeding career in thoroughbred racing. Secretariat was only as good on the track as N Dancer was in the stable, but I'd take Big Red's Triple Crown)
    8. 1972 Munich murders in Olympic Village (Portent/blueprint of era of modern terrorism)
    9. Curt Flood's challenge of reserve clause
    10. 1979 NCAA hoops final. (M-Madness takes off. I'd put in Bill Russell's first or last NBA title)

    YHS, etc
