Oh, the agony

This just in from the Lone Star Conference (Division II) women's baketbal tournament:

Abilene Christian University scores with 0.2 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to take a 99-97 lead over Central Oklahoma.

ACU bench rushes the court in celebration, drawing a technical foul.

Central Oklahoma hits the two free throws to send it to a third overtime and goes on to win 111-105.

All I can say is it took some huevos to make that call.

 

Same thing happened in the Pac-10 this year.
This is college, kids.

That's just funny. The team we cover here didn't even make that tourney. Would have loved to be up there to cover that and see those shenanigans.

 

Ding ding ding. Keep your pants on until the ref says "game over."

 

Had that happen at a HS game two stops ago. Kid hits a shot to put home team up by one, visitors call time out. Problem was, it was hard to hear in the gym, and the clock operator didn't stop the clock, even though the whistle was blown with about a second left.

One of the bench players ran onto the court, and was T'd up. Visitors hit two FTs to win by one. Bench player sits on the bench sobbing.

 

Glad that call was made. Definitely the right call. Would have been sad if it hadn't been made.
