    SIGN OF THE TIMES, UNFORTUNATELY
Thirty employees, including several tenured, lost their jobs recently at the Lawrence Journal-World after Ogden Newspapers purchased it from the Simons Family — owners for the past 125 years.
The LJ-W sports desk was chopped in half, losing half of their eight sports guys, including KU hoops beat writer Gary Bedore, who had been with them the past 30 years, and longtime desk ace Andrew Hartsock.
The new company will be hard-pressed to replicate Bedore's scoops. He had a huge fan base, several of whom were irate about his firing, and Jay Bilas and Dick Vitale praised Bedore on Twitter when this sadly all went down last week.
