Nah. Got four tickets for the whole family, front row in the upper deck, at $12 a pop on StubHub. If you pick the right game, Cardinals tickets are pretty easy to obtain there at a good price.

And to my surprise, there were far more empty seats than I thought there would be. Part of it might have been that it was 212 degrees in St. Louis today, but they're used to that.

Standing room only tickets, damn it all.

Their face value is $18, to have ushers be pissy when you're not standing within the lines, and to stand in that oppressive heat.

In better news, I got to see the Cardinals get punked 11-0 by the Pirates in person today.

I was decked out in my Prince Fielder T-shirt, representing the pennant race for the Brewers in hostile territory. Though there was initial skepticism about my choice of garb inside Baseball Heaven*, Cardinals fans and I broke bread over mutual dislike of the Cubs.

* Is that supposed to be capitalized? I don't really know, so gee, I guess I'll just have to ask "God". And while I've got him on the line, I'm going to ask why Busch Stadium's 9th-rate hot dogs cost nearly $5 in "heaven", and why my wife and I could find no evidence they have no kids meal at any concession in "heaven", and why in general, concessions really suck in "heaven".

I might go zen and ask why "heaven" is surrounded by, in no particular order: I-64, a parking garage, a vacant lot that used to be "heaven" (apparently, Baseball Village, which is what's supposed to be on what's left of the old Busch Stadium site is patterned after Hiroshima '45), the Bowling Hall of Fame (where God goes to get away from it all and where he talks to Webby) and a Westin (where God presumably sleeps).

And for my boys at the P-D, I'm going to ask why the worst press box in MLB is in "heaven".

In all seriousness, for my second trip to St. Louis in just over a month, Cardinals fans were very classy. My daughter, inexplicably a big Pirates fan, was decked out in Pirate black from head-to-toe. I can't count how many Cardinals fans had nice things to say to her.

Cardinals fans are, generally, complete fucking assholes. They get kinda testy when the meth wears off.

Cubs fans display their class by slamming the classy Cardinals fans I sat around yesterday. Nice.

At least I know Cardinals fans can handle their liquor. You go to a Cardinals game and it's like they're playing inside a Budweiser vat with all of the Anheuser-Busch paraphenalia and with all of the Bud flowing, and yet, nearly everyone manages to hold it together.

You go to a Cubs game and many of the "fans" -- a decent percentage of whom have an interest and knowledge of baseball that runs about as deep as Miss Teen South Carolina's thoughts, with a corresponding increase in life's ambition to get blitzed at the ballpark -- drink one Old Style (Old Style? WTF? It's not even a Chicago beer, it's from Wisconsin, and we don't like it) and all hell breaks loose.

There's classy Cubs fans too, mind you, but the vapidity quotient among the Cubs fanbase skyrockets compared to all of the teams around them.
