A old boss used to tell me, "You're going to be here a lot longer than some coach or player." It was a good way of looking at things. Even if you piss someone off, you're only going to have to deal with them for a finite amount of time.

Of course, in this day and age, it's probably a flat lie -- or at best wishful thinking -- so I'm not sure how helpful it is.
