Columns on passing of an all time great work for "over the top " also.

Its a time when people are in mode for over the top imagery.

Obviously I say that as a reader.

You've quoted me in error, Shockey. I never said that.

That quote belongs to 93 Devil.

Why on HOF rather than a day like Saturday?

Days like Saturday happen, where the aging star embraces the moment, very rarely. That was Ted Williams knocking one out in his final at bat big. Very few people will be excited when Jeter makes the HOF because it will not be a suprise. Saturday was a suprise.

93, it's just my opinion that in-your-face ejaculating into the face of the people you cover should wait until they're no longer active. doesn't mean you can't write glowing, positive columns on active players and their achievements. this was way, way, WAY beyond that.

I see your point, and you are right.

I was just thinking that the "iron was hot" for something like that, and to me HOF columns are not interesting.

    well, you're right. they're not.

but i'll take 'not interesting' over 'embarrassing, ejaculating and laughable' every time.

    That was quite awful.

About two years ago I posted that O'Connor wasn't all that. I got ripped in short order.

Guess I wasn't alone of thinking he was a bit overrated.

Did anyone read this and not laugh?

The ball was in the air, disappearing into the kind of white clouds Norman Rockwell loved to paint, and Derek Jeter watched it the way a child watches a runaway balloon floating across a midsummer sky.

More over the top than Stallone.
