    Sid Fernandez doesn’t count, right?

Manning, Anderson and Jones are also not in the Hall. I'm guessing it's early to mid 60s when there was 14 teams in the NFL prior to the merger. But I can't come up with more than Starr, Jorgenson, Title, Unitas and Bobby Layne.

I will give up the ghost since you are close.
    1961
    Starr (packers)
    Jurgensen (Eagles)
    Tittle (giants)
    Unitas (colts)
    Layne (Steelers)
Fran Tarkenton (then a rookie with the Vikings)
Len Dawson (final season with the browns)

    Some notes:
John Brodie and Don Meredith we’re both starting that year as well. While neither ever came close to the HOF, a break here or there and both might have gotten in at some point.

Sadly, not all seven started in the same week. Layne was out the week Dawson got his start.

What state has produced the most NFL players (251) without producing a single HOFer?

    Sometime in the 1950s.

    Bobby Layne (Lions)
    Otto Graham (Browns)
    Charley Conerly (NY football Giants)
    George Blanda (Bears)
    Norm Van Brocklin (Eagles/Rams)
    YA Tittle (49ers)
    Starr (Packers)
    Unitas (Colts)

    Close!
Conerly is not in the Hall of Fame. But that leaves six of 12 so far. So we are close. However, my question was “started” games.

Blanda didn’t start a game from 1955 thought 1958. That leaves you with a high water mark of 5 in 1956.

But shitfuck, I may still be wrong! I snuck back a few years and in 1952, there was
    Graham (browns)
    Layne (lions)
    Tittle (49ers)
    Van Brocklin (Rams)
Charley Trippi (cards, who while a career running back was the main qb that year)
    Blanda (bears)
    Bob waterfield (Rams)
    Baugh (redskins)

That’s eight total, and seven of 12!
But holy Budweiser, this is Sj.com and let me wade deep into the lake of fail. Jim Finks (hof) was with the Steelers and Tom Landry started one game at qb for the giants. That is nine of 12. Go suck it eagles, packers, texans. You got nothing.

But I think my question and answer still stands...on a technicality.

Wild ass guess is Massachusetts because Smerlas isn't in and is the best I can think of.

Which punter set an NFL record for most had-blocked in a season?

Harry Newsome with 6 in 1988. That was the first year where I watched a game every week. It was comical.

    Money.
The career mark is Herman Weaver, a '70s punter if God ever made one, with 14

Harry Newsome played quarterback, safety and was the field goal kicker at tiny Cheraw High in SC, but not punter. The reason because there was another teammate who made the NFL as a punter. Who was the other punter?

Since I just read his obit, Nick Bouniconti was from Springfield...so not the Bay State.

Other than that, I have no idea what state it might be.
