Bill Stoneman no-hit the Phillies in 1969 in his first complete game, and no-hit the Mets in 1972 in his last complete game.

 

Here’s some obscure trivia. When I was a kid in the late 60s/early 70s, Stoneman’s mom sold shoes at our local JC Penny in suburban Los Angeles. She kept a picture of him in his Expos uniform on display.

Maybe 10 years ago I saw Stoneman in the press box in the Honda Center when he was GM of the Angels and told him I remember his mother and what a thrill it was for a kid to get shoes from a Major League mom.

He thanked me for sharing and said his mom was the biggest baseball fan in the family.

 

On this day in 1975, Frank Robinson became to the first Black manager to win an MLB game. Who did the Indians beat? Who was the Indians winning pitcher?
