The year Bruce Sutter made the HOF (2006) with 300 career saves, another pitcher with 303 career saves dropped off the HOF ballot. Who is player #2?

Doug Jones, the changeup king. Had some mighty fine MLB seasons.

I forgotten how long he spent in the minors before the Indians made him a closer at age 31. That is some perseverance to bounce around that long.

Who was the only pitcher to win his team's first game of the season, and his team's first game of the "second season," in the 1981 strike year?

Who are the only three players in MLB history to have more than one hitting streak of at least 30 games in their careers?

    No.

Joe D had streaks of 56 and 31, I think, the 31-gamer starting right after the 56-gamer ended.

    Probably Wee Willie Keeler too.

Not DiMaggio. His second hitting streak in 1941 was only 16 games. His brother Dom had a 34-gamer in 1949, so they're probably the only brothers on the 30 games or more list.
Not Wee Willie Keeler, either. He had the record before Joe D (44 games in 1896), but that was the only time he ever got over 30.

Sisler and Cobb are correct. Goslin is not.

Sisler had a 41-game streak in 1922, and a 34-game streak that spanned the 1924-25 seasons.
    Cobb had a 40-game streak in 1911 and a 35-gamer in 1917.

Had to look it up. It wasn't Fernando. He filled in for Jerry Reuss on opening day when Reuss came up with a strained calf muscle. That ignited Fernando-mania. But to start the post-lockout second season, Reuss was the winning pitcher.
