O'Brien-Richter: Together Again.

I have always found Joel somewhat funny, but not as much as he is creepy and discomfiting.

I'm guessing they can't do Andy as full-on sidekick due to the fear that it would seem to weaken Conan. Too much of the Tonight Show demo is unfamiliar with Conan as it is, and Andy is a little too familiar. He's been a guest star on every episodic show in the world. They probably feel like they need to keep Conan strong out front.

 

I reckon that was part of what made him so funny. His character was so over the top skeevy and pathetic that you couldn't help but laugh.

 

I get that that's what they are going for, but for me the creepy outweighed the humor value in the creepy. I think it was the ponytail. What grown man who knows he's on TV would intentionally wear a ponytail? They didn't stick that on him; he wears that around in life. Which adds too much legitimacy to his creepiness.

 

Non-musical sidekick on a 12:30 show isn't exactly a plum job in show biz.

 

He overestimated his talent.

 

I'll take it.

 

And you'll leave it as soon as someone offers you a show of your own.

 

Especially a primetime show.

 

I'll take that, too. Better than being an unemployed newspaper hack.
