Obama: Yeah, how about that stimulus, huh?

    Everyone: Uhhhh....sure.

Yeah, I'll go for that one. I forgot, the American people vote on catchphrases and whether their candidate prefers Elvis or Johnny Cash to actual issues.

The situation 1. The economy sucks
    2. That generally spells doom for the incumbent.
    3. Polls have yet to indicate doom, because the Republicans have problems of their own.
    4. Prognosis: Unclear, ask again later.

PS: Mizzou, of course the opposite holds about Presidential statements, and that too indicates the President might as well say what he thinks, so few people are really listening -- just jumping to an opinion without listening.

So Obama's economic campaign strategy should be to say that in four years as President, he bears no responsibility for what has happened in the economy?

"Vote me in again, I was too ineffective to be blamed for what happened the first time."

He's an incumbent in a weak economy. He's going to be blamed. He can overcome the blame, but he can't deflect it.

No, not saying that at all. But he'd be remiss if he didn't remind folks that the guys controlling Congress have played a role, too. He threw the Republicants a bone with the tax cut renewal. So where are the jobs? We were led to believe that all we had to do was put the GOP back in charge and everything would be better overnight. Hasn't quite materialized, has it?

Does this mean none of the other rules apply either?

So Obama agreeing to a temporary extension of the Bush tax cuts equates to putting the GOP "in charge of everything?" Talk about a reach of epic proportions. If the GOP was in charge of everything there would be no Obamacare, no wasted stimulus and, chances are, an actual end game in Libyia. Maybe not an end game, but Congressional approval.

Obama is clearly going to run on bashing the Republicans because his record in office is deplorable. If he had any solid, positive accomplishments he would be hanging his hat on them. The fact that he isn't trumpeting any of his actions while in office speaks loud and clear.

    Well said.

He can definitely overcome the blame. It will take a pretty sizable upset (at least at this point) for him to lose. But he's going to have to take at least a portion of the blame (fairly or unfairly) for the state of the economy.

It's June Fucking 14, The Year Before The Election.

Very little that matters now is going to matter in Nov. 2012.
