Gerould Kern should have resigned in protest of what's gone on there a long time ago.

But he never did, did he?

The prick is always telling employees to ''ignore the noise", whether it's lawsuits filed against Tribune, articles exposing Tribune suckitude or the latest bankruptcy maneuverings.

Zell had the gall to end one of his memos with "We're partners! Act like it!" in response to the lawsuit alleging Tribune of fraudulent conveyance. Not exactly sure how many hundreds (thousands?) of "partners" have been tossed overboard in the 2 years since.

The Trib handles Onion ad sales. Abrams distributed those links knowing full well it would create a storm and -- duh -- more ad traffic. Get over it.

Good taste aside, I still can't believe the hand-wringing by journalists who continue to be unable to see the forest for the trees.

The hand-wringing is not so much over these stupid memos and their offensive, embarrassing content as it is over the fact that these offensive, embarrassing people are the ones in charge of a major company of which we were genuinely proud to be a part, especially, apparently, in comparison to these guys.

You can find plenty of disgusting bugs under a rock in any organization. Pride goeth before a fall. Keep moving forward.

Goalmouth, if these disgusting greedy pigs were pigs who were putting out either profitable newspapers, good newspapers or both, complaints would be more muted. But they are disgusting pigs who are failures on their own terms, businessmen creating a shitty, money-losing product.

Abrams has been suspended indefinitely without pay by Tribune CEO Michaels. The link: http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45&aid=192587

So the pot suspends the kettle.

The level of hypocrisy displayed is beyond stunning.

    Simply remarkable.

Goalmouth, you and I are often on the same side of these issues, but given the current state of things in the wake of the NYT story, Abrams' distribution of this was monumentally stupid on a number of levels.

You can say it's unfair or inconsistent or what have you. What I'd be more concerned about is the intelligence and common sense of a very senior and important person in the company.

And Ben, I don't see this as hypocrisy at all (well, having Michaels still where he is might be). The editor sent out an e-mail THIS WEEK about Tribune being a safe and secure place to work, and then Abrams does his thing. I don't see the hypocrisy in at least somebody trying to start cleaning this mess up.

It's a shame to see a brilliant and creative thinker like Abrams stifled so.

But, but, with Abrams suspended, how is Tribune supposed to innovate?
