NYT resorts to layoffs

    For the love of God, PLEASE stop referring to your newspaper as a 'shop.'

    As long as I have to pay union dues, I'm going to use some union talk.
     
  3. That's been the way in which I've heard every newspaper I've ever worked for referred.

    Fifty union journalists have accepted buyouts, as have 20 non-union journalists.

    If 30 people don't accept a buyout, then 30 people are going to leave without the benefit of a buyout.

    (People, seriously, if you think you're on the chopping block, go for the buyout while you still can.)

    The Post, with its usual restraint, says the Times' newsroom is "bracing for a bloodbath."
