Considering many NYT regional papers make more money than the Globe, this isn't a great surprise...

A better source, the Globe itself:

The Guild counteroffer should be to accept management's proposal on the condition Sulzberger resign.

And the Globe shuts down with that counter.

$20 million is close to what they asked of the Denver Newspaper Agency in concessions, I believe. ... I would think this figure should be feasible. ... Closing can't possibly be an option for the Globe.

    Uh huh. Sure.

    (to the threat, not Pendleton)

I'm serious. Pinch Sulzberger is as incompetent a CEO as America has. He's fucked the stockholders, now it's on to the employees, and finally a few years from now, the people foolish enough to have lent the Times money.
He's as accountable as the Wall Street guys his paper editorializes against. He should resign from shame.
But as a newspaper publisher, he ain't got any.

Maybe the Decatur (Ala.) Daily would like to buy it, too.

Am sure those presses are better than the ones at the last paper they bought.

Not really a better source, since it says the exact same thing.

    Phoenix < Globe
    "reliable source" < "union leaders"
three grafs and a memo quote < a fully reported story
