NYT Equality In The Military Editorial - Half the Story

The Times indeed pushed coverage of Whitewater and Travelgate, FWIW. But Ace's point stands that Clinton's policy was a compromise to allow gays to stay in the military. Plus, the Times was correct in putting the focus on the law passed by Congress a year after Clinton's order. If it were as simple as overturning an executive order, Obama could end DADT right this second.

Boom: Is there a point to this, other than the chance to take yet another gratuitous swipe at Bill Clinton?
The NYT did indeed break the Whitewater story.

The main point of this thread is to take yet another gratuitous swipe at two right-wing targets at once: The NYT and Bill Clinton.

I didn't mean to come off that harsh with the rewriting history comment. Sorry. I just never thought the Times was particularly tough on Clinton. Their editorial pages always seemed friendly to him.

  4. It's all good. You're thinking of editorial page coverage. I'm thinking A1.

Sorry but this is bad journalism. You cannot write a story about "Don't ask don't tell " and not mention it's origin.

To argue anything else is being intellectually dishonest.

The Gays in Military became a major issue for Clinton from day 1 of his Presidency.

Yeah, it was Clinton's compromise after the bigots in Congress went apeshit over the idea. This is revisionist history on your part, Boomer, to imply that Clinton was the bad guy on this one.

No it's not. Clinton should have never compromised on his campaign promise. He did not have to issue his executive order.

Serious FHB do you think the stories the Times wrote today are missing a few key parts.?

The editorial you posted isn't, no. Compromise shouldn't always be considered failure. It was the best he could get at the time, and is progressing to this point. Is it good enough? No. But it's better than what was before.
