Go to the front page of Sportsline.
    There is a name.
    Not one mentioned thus far.

Bob Valvano just called the ref case (and I'm paraphrasing big-time) potentially the biggest sporting scandal to hit during his lifetime. So ESPN isn't totally dummying up.

    Stop with the stereotyping.
    This is a sad situation.

Judging by the "he" in the story - I gather Violet Palmer is the only one we can rule out. Maybe the NBA will want to dig up that report about ref's not being biased again.

Is he son of longtime prominent college ref of same last name? That's the only thing about the name that jumped out at me.
(Hint: Sportsline is saying it is Tim Donaghy)

Wow. I'm surprised that a name has been put out there so quickly. Sportsline really stuck its neck out on this one. They better be very, very sure.

Am 99% sure that he is the son of the college ref. I went to college with another son of the college ref, who looked an awful lot like Tim Donaghy does.

I agree with Pern here. NBA refs can make the biggest direct impact with the least scrutiny. You can only call so many holds in football.

In baseball the home plate umpire can make things tougher but can't prevent a team from hitting the ball and would get found pretty quickly if his zone was wide for one team and pea sized for the other.
