NY Columnist Demands to See His Friend Davey

Apparently a columnist from one of the NY tabs was denied entry into
The Nationals club house and was heard by others telling guard that he
was there to see "his friend Davey"

So great and certainly good clues on who it may be:

"According to multiple sources, a Diminutive Local Columnist arrived too late to gain entry to the Nationals clubhouse on Opening Day at Citi Field, and despite his protestations, was not allowed in to see his friend, “Davey.” The DLC, apparently unaware Davey Johnson stepped down as manager after last season, must be spending too much time on his knee-jerk “Dispatches From The Recliner” columns and not enough time keeping up with mundane sports news. However, he has learned his lesson. The DLC has vowed to get to the Yankees home opener bright and early Monday so he can talk to Andy Pettitte about his upcoming season.
