We're not even into NFL off season yet and there is already some great
stories hitting the wire on players acting badly.

    Davone Bess is the latest.

A TSA officer wrote in the complaint affidavit that several passengers at the airport reported strange behavior from Bess. He was dancing and singing, with his pants repeatedly falling down. Bess was then approached by the officer, at which time Bess squeezed his cup of coffee in order to spill the liquid on the officer, according to the report. Bess proceeded to take a "fighting stance" toward the officer and take off his shirt. The officer said Bess appeared to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic.

I think I have a line on the unknown narcotic:

Not a good month for Bess ... from AP:

The arrest comes one day after Bess posted a photo on his Twitter page of a small package containing what appears to be marijuana. The photo was later deleted. Last month, a photo posted on Bess’ Instagram account showed him lighting a cigar or marijuana joint next to a photo of late reggae star Bob Marley, a Rastafarian flag around his shoulders.
On Dec. 19, the Browns placed Bess on the reserve/non-football illness list for what were described as personal reasons. He missed the final two games of the season.

    Is stupidity a non-football illness?

I read that as "posted a photo on his Twitter page of his small package" and had to do a doubletake

Guy seems like he needs some help. Or to kick the drugs.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/01/17/3876798/former-miami-dolphins-receiver.html

The police report detailing Davone Bess' alleged assault of a Broward sheriff's deputy Friday depicts an unstable, violent man, likely on drugs.

It's the same condition in which authorities discovered Bess, the former Dolphins receiver, in his Cooper City home 10 months earlier -- and the reason his family had him hospitalized against his will.

Six BSO deputies were needed that night to restrain Bess, who was screaming, “Hide the guns!” “Where is my weed?” and “I want to get in the end zone; throw me the football!” according to the incident report.

Word of Bess’ prior meltdown was never made public until now.

A month after his hospitalization, the Dolphins traded him to the the Cleveland Browns, where he remains to this day. A team spokesman said the Browns are aware of the situation and are working to gather more information.

Why is this an indictment of the Browns brass rstherr than the Dolphins'? More reason to believe they didn't let the Browns know what was up and merely dumped a troubled player overboars.

As I recall the Dolphins were less than candid about Brandon Marshall
but that worked out for The Bears.

As pot becomes legal in more states, I think people are just going to have to learn to
deal with more festive pubic behavior. The new norm until publc intoxication laws are
    rewritten.

As far as I know, pot doesn't make you act in the manners described in these stories. Unless it's laced with something else, which is entirely possible.

Because the Browns are a complete mess. Good luck with that Rich Bisaccia hire. Hahahahahaha! It's not clear whether the team knew this at the time. Seems they didn't. I'd fault both sides in this one if they weren't aware of it.

So...no background checks before taking a player in, huh?
