    One thing these days is you may not know how many people are reading, but you sure know how many people are clicking on your site.

    So if a Podunk game generally gets 200 page views. You don't really have a hard choice deciding whether to spend money on a gamer if you can generate it without doing so.

    Of course it also means you don't get anything that isn't available to anyone else, but that's also the case if you send a stringer 90 percent of the time.

    Well said. Sadly, readers just aren't as well-read as they need to or should be. If it's not on the internet, doesn't make noises and you can't grab an achievement for doing it, they have no interest.

    Most people don't even know what a byline is or where it's located.

    It's an annual amusement when the datelines thread turns up, just to see how many people really think the reader is understanding the "signal" we're supposed to be sending with the dateline.
