Not a good start to Dana Holgorsen era at WVU

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, May 25, 2011.

  1. Now Chuck Landon, former WVU columnist for a Charleston paper, who now covers Marshall for Huntington, throws some shit to the wall.
Claims Holgorsen has as six such incidents, most since being hired by WVU.
Also claims Luck was pulled from Big East meeting back to Mo'town by pres and told if Holgorsen's problems are true and he if has any more issues Luck will also be out of a job.

It might also help credibility if they spelled his name right. The headline has "Holgersen."

The fact that a West Virginia newspaper has a web site is a step in the right direction.

That's not a West Virginia illiteracy joke, for the record. That's a statement on the general difficulty and all eyesores associated with navigating the web sites of practically all of the state's newspapers.

That story doesn't do much to discount the other papers' columns, and it certainly doesn't "refute" them as the headline says. Refute means they offered proof that the allegations in those columns were false. What they did here was merely dispute the allegations. Administrators speaking as protected sources, to say those allegations aren't true while also avoiding their own responsibilities and embarrassment if the stories are true, have no more credibility than the sources that fed the initial information. Probably less credibility, actually, because they'd have more reason to lie and cover it up. The most solid information in the whole case comes from the bar owner who says yeah, something like that might have happened.

I agree, that story didn't do much to convince anyone that these things didn't happen.

And to put a headline that says, "WVU refutes reports on Holgorsen, claims there are 'blatant inaccuracies' " on it is a pretty inaccurate way to describe the story, too.

Plus later in the story is this gem ...

Some of the details may be exaggerated or just plain wrong, but if WVU really is "refuting reports" about Holgorsen, then why do they feel the need to make him aware of expected behavior and the level of scrutiny going forward?

Well business picked up in a hurry here. A Mountaineer BLOG!!! claims the source of the Holgorsen dirt is ... Bill Stewart. (Insert Scooby Doo villian reveal gasp here.)

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail goes all in on toeing the company line.

  8. Not exactly.. It claims the source is Uncle Billy's wife. And it's pretty fucking thin. No saying it is or isn't true, but it's thin.

Only West Virginia could follow up the shit show of legal wrangling that followed Rich Rodriguez's divorce from them with an even messier and perhaps costlier shit show this time around.

Does anyone believe this is going to end well for anyone?
