North Korea declares war?

I look at North Korea like an NFL looks at preseason football.

If they decide to play for real, we want to win without showing everything in the playbook for the regular season. But if they do launch something, taking it out over the Pacific would be the prime goal. If anything those assholes send up reaches our soil, then we have been wasting money every time a tax dollar goes to the military.

Once we take the missile out, I would be in favor of killing Kim Jung Phooey and his top 20 ranking officials in drone strikes in under thirty minutes or with what ever thing we have available. What would be more impressive if we take out the top 20 but not kill anyone else as collateral.

You want to move on us, just remember you and your top advisers will all be dead in 30 minutes. I'm guessing we have the real time technology to know where Phooey is every second of everyday. And not just which house he is in, but which room of the house he is in.

Yeah, like we did with Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein--that only took 30 minutes too, right? Oh wait...

We're not quite as omnipotent as some seem to think.

I'd be shocked if NK has the capability to hit Hawaii, let alone Austin.

that would be a "skilled" shot, hitting one of those islands.
supposedly it can hit the west coast.

China's top concern is keeping a socialist-led North Korean government in place. They don't want a unified Korea, with US military bases, just an imaginary line away. I'm sure they'd do lots to stop any western attack against that country. And because of their business relationships with South Korea and Japan, they'll make sure North Korea doesn't do shit there.

Thinking about it, I think that chubby dipshit could cause WW3 if he wanted to. He'd just need to have the technology in place to attack the US. And that's no guarantee.

Well, with Osama and Saddam we weren't willing to atomize everything within a 100-mile radius to kill them.

If Kimmy Boy actually did launch a WMD strike on the United States I suspect things might be quite different.

They don't have to deliver it on a missile. They just need to load it on a "fishing trawler," leave it floating on a barge in international waters and retrieve it.

I would be curious to see what we could do.

Osama went underground in 2001. So our satellites might not have gotten a digital footprint of him, or the best we had was what 2001 could give us. This guy has been out in the open with 2013 technology looking at him. Maybe I am overestimating what we can do, but I think what our military really can do would scare people to death.

The first shot you'd get with targets like those are likely to be your best. Once things go to pot and they scatter or (literally) head underground, you're relying more on human intelligence than anything.
That'd be a big problem in North Korea. We have little to no inside information.

You're most likely right with regard to any old randomly selected member (or unit(s)) of the PRK military complex. A specific one, however, that's entirely another matter ...

Kinda like with the "Shock and Awe" in Baghdad? Really We should be taking more lessons out of Iraq and Afghanistan. I remember all of the jokes, especially about Afghanistan, about basically leveling their caves, blasting them back to the stone age or in their case last week, etc. We completely underestimated their resolve and capabilities in gorilla warfare and 10 years later it's still not quite done. Back in the 50s during the Korean War, hundreds of thousands of Americans and other UN forces lost their lives, same on the North Korea/Russian/Chinese end. Now obviously I was not alive then, but I think we vastly underestimated them then.

All I can say is, if they throw one nuke out there, chances are they have more than one. Don't fuck around. Blast them back with a nuke. You cannot let them think -- or other situations like in the middle east as was also pointed out -- that we won't fire back with the same force. If they do some how get a nuke to hit LA or San Fran and incinerate millions of innocent Americans, do you think anyone then would really care about taking out the civilian population in Pyongyang?

And I'm not saying we should have nuked Iraq or Afghanistan. All I am saying if anything, we should have learned not to underestimate a foe on their soil. Ever.
