And who's fault is that? Consultants came in 10 years ago or whenever talking about the Internet and how newspapers had to embrace it. "Guess what Mr. Publisher," the consultants said, "you won't have to buy that expensive ol newsprint anymore. That newsprint that keeps going up in price every year? Forgetaboutit. The news is going to ultimately all be on the Internet and you won't have to worry about these dirty fancy presses of yours. You won't have to hire pressmen. It'll all be online. The key is we'll give it away for free. And you can go ahead and start laying off dozens of people because our plan is to cut cut cut the newspaper and it'll all be online sooner rather than later. Think about how much money you are going to make without the cost of fricking newsprint."

-- Oops. What actually happened? Ad salespeople couldn't sell ads for the internet and the newspaper is a piece of shit now because of cuts and layoffs so nobody wants to buy it or advertise in it. Both operations are utter failures online and print, LOL consultants. You did a fine job.

And actually, newspapers in small towns that didn't embrace the internet and kept covering their communities beautifully are still doing well. Names make news and people want to read about people and always will. the news gatherers won't be making any money however. That's going to be the only difference.

Was one of the high school sports reporters let go. It's a shame, but HS sports and beats like Tulane could not be sustained. They moved people around so that there will be coverage of big events, but not nearly the sports staff we had 3 years ago

I am sorry for your misfortune. Good luck to you in the future.

I would think Tulane would be the number four beat in New Orleans after the Saints, LSU and the NBA team. How many people are left in sports if they can not staff a Tulane beat?
