Not only that, but for the B.U.'s, B.C.'s and Harvards of the world, I don't think they're worried about making a killing with their athletics. I'm sure the tuition, endowments and grants have them all well in the black.

I'll not have you insult the good name of Alabama-Huntsville like that.

Chris Walsh, does UNH still have the ban on "Black Betty?"

Ok Michigan and Ohio State have 100k stadiums they sell out not to mention the TV revenue from going to bowl games. I am sure MInnesota keeps up with the big dogs in money selling out hockey games that Ohio State and Michigan also sell out.

    OK, this makes no sense.

No, Minnesota doesn't make the same selling out a 10K seat ice arena as Michigan does selling out the big house.

However, Minnesota also has a football team that does sell some tickets.

They ALSO sell out a 10K seat ice arena (probably double the size of either Michigan or Ohio State's) more than 20 times a year -- with the highest ticket prices of any Gopher sport. Every game is on television. Corporate boxes are at a premium.

Hockey also drives merchandise sales at Minnesota.

Look, you don't live in an area with big time college hockey. That's OK. Just don't think that it can't be a huge part of a school's athletics program. Because it is, both in the upper midwest, and on the east coast, at a lot of big and prestigious schools.

While Yost Ice Arena only seats 6600, Michigan hockey averages 6700 a game.
Schottenstein Center seats 17,500 for hockey, OSU averages 5600 a game.

My only concern: I went to the first round NCAA playoff twinbill in Worcester this year, and every cheer ended with "BC Sucks!" even though we were trailing Nebraska-Omaha at the time. I felt like saying,"C'mon, let's beat the team in front of us before we worry about BC."
I do miss the taunt to referees from my day (early '80s), to the tune of "Clementine" after a lame call:
    Where's your father,
    Where's your father,
    Where's your father, Referee?
Haven't got one, haven't got one
    You're a bastard, Referee.
Too bad - I guess the preseason game with Deadwood Tech is off.
