    Actually, it's not all that unbelievable. I've told a story here before about a buddy of mine in the military who jumped out of a plane, chute didn't open right and he hit the ground hard. Was knocked unconscious for about a half hour, but got up and walked away. They estimated he hit the ground at around 50 mph. It's all about where you hit and how you hit.

    Is it hard to believe he survived? Absolutely. Impossible? Nah.

    Did they show Locke after he hit the ground? Maybe he landed in a bush that cushioned the landing yet broke his back.

    From what I can remember, it looked like he landed in grass. Guess it could have been exceptionally soft turf.

    Knowing the show, he probably landed on Jack's dad.
