Are we really going to pretend that the pushback went further than arguing against Trump's claim of "thousands" celebrating?

The next day, ABC This Week host George Stephanopoulos asked Trump if he misspoke, noting that "the police say that didn't happen."

But there is no conclusive evidence that any New Jersey residents celebrated the attacks
, and there is no evidence whatsoever of any demonstrations where "thousands and thousands of people" cheered.

Fact-checking Trump's claim that thousands in New Jersey cheered when World Trade Center tumbled

But there were no confirmed reports of mass cheering in Jersey City — which is located directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan — during the terrorist attack.

The Star-Ledger reported that while the were widespread rumors of celebrations by Muslims in Newark and Paterson — a city with an estimated 25,000 Muslim residents, the second-most of any U.S. town — police and local leaders denied they ever took place.

The clear implication isn't just that Trump was wrong, but that there were no celebrations.

As for the "incident reports", maybe they should have asked for 911 logs:

Callers also flooded the 911 system with accounts of jubilant Muslims on a rooftop at a third location

This really isn't defensible. The media got into an argument with Donald Trump, in an effort to discredit him, and their "facts" were no better than his.

I hope you make thousands of dollars in profits this month, YF. But if you make dozens of dollars instead, don't bitch because it's basically the same thing.

They claimed there was no evidence, including "television coverage" Trunp claimed he watched, of thousands and thousands of Muslims celebrating in Jersey City.

Everyone will admit there were "reports" of it at the time that were A) not confirmed to be true for whatever reason, and B) nowhere near as widespread as Trump would like to think.

You implicate all you want. Trump made a statement that was false. He has absolutely nothing to back it up. The possibility that some small groups cheered or appeared to cheer does not prove Trump's argument.

You should quit the coffee biz and go into lawyering. You are good at trying to introduce reasonable doubt, even if it's not reasonable.

Everyone "admitted" there were reports after conservative bloggers dug them up.

The original WaPo factcheck said there no reports:

Trump says that he saw this with his own eyes on television and that it was well covered. But an extensive examination of news clips from that period turns up nothing. There were some reports of celebrations overseas, in Muslim countries, but nothing that we can find involving the Arab populations of New Jersey.

The WaPo "fact check" was then used by others to back up the claim that no reports of Muslims celebrating existed.

Not an admission of "some reports". The claim is very clear. No Muslims celebrated in Jersey City.

Someone will have to tell me how the following things are different (they must be, because the reactions to each are completely different):

Trump: Thousands and thousands of Muslims cheered on 9/11 as the Towers fell.
Media: We can find no evidence of that happening.

    Media: Vladimir Putin kills journalists.
Trump: I have not seen any evidence of that happening.

There was television coverage of Middle Easterners celebrating that day.

It was footage being broadcast from....the Middle East. That's more than likely what he watched.

"...we found no evidence to back up Trump’s description of events on American soil."

Look, there's a reason why the media isn't trusted, and it's not because of me.

So, the next time they declare Trump made something up, even less people will believe them because of things like this, because of things like the CBS headline claiming Trump supports Putin murdering journalists.

The more the media discredits themselves, the more they empower Trump.

Have we seen the conclusive evidence of New Jersey residents celebrating? It wasn't in the article you posted that prompted this thread. NJ.com has asked for the 911 logs and has not yet received them.

"NJ Advance Media filed a request for public records from the police department's computer-aided dispatch system, which tracks 911 calls and provides a synopsis entered by dispatchers at the time of a call.

On Dec. 11, Jersey City requested a two-week extension to fulfill the request, initially submitted Dec. 2."

You are right. You aren't the reason the media is not trusted. But keep discrediting anyway, champ.
