I would apply for this job, but I have destroyed several forests with the resumes I have sent Stephens over the past couple years ...

I don't think anybody gets the sense that Stephens looks over resumes and clips the way Hoppes did. That being said, Stephens has earned a permanent pass from me for hiring the great Jeff Shain, a move that I don't think Hoppes ever would have done.

I told Tim he's one of of the few people I would drive an hour to cover a girls soccer match for ... and damned if he didnt take me up on it.

Did anything happen with this gig? A friend had applied and got a note from Tim thanking him for doing so, then heard nothing. Maybe it's become a part-time agate job instead.

I recommended a guy who interviewed with TS, but I got the impression this will be an inside promotion, much like their columnist hire in Fort Lauderdale.

Stephens has been doing a lot of that lately.

Everybody has been doing a lot of that lately. Or nothing at all.

Consider most of the production jobs are going to Chicago, I figure an in-house person would be retained for this job.

Appears to be done. Only know my outside guy didn't get it.

Saw a few sections recently and they were riddled with typos and errors. Lots of shared content from South Florida that doesn't mean much in Orlando, too. Content not top-notch anymore, but the errors really stood out. Used to be a well-edited section, but doesn't appear to be now.

Saw this on APSE site. It makes perfect sense: David Georgette, who has worked as the Orlando Sentinel as a sports senior editor, assistant sports editor and Universal Desk night production editor since 2000, is the new Florida Night Sports Editor for the Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun Sentinel. Before joining the Orlando Sentinel as a senior editor in 2000, David served as an assistant sports editor and interim sports editor at the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville and was the assistant managing editor for sports at Gannett Suburban Newspapers in New York. His career also includes stops at Tennis Week, the Miami Herald and the Chico (Calif.) Enterprise Record.
