Since it's three days until the NHL awards ceremony, I figured I'd start a thread asking for the esteemed brain trust's predictions on who wins and how the off-season manueverings.

With that in mind, here is a list of the awards and those nominated:

I think the awards part is a D_B, but here's my predictions:

    Hart Memorial Trophy
    Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils
Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins --- winner
    Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks

    Lester B. Pearson Award
    Vincent Lecavalier, Tampa Bay Lightning
    Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks --- winner

    Calder Trophy
    Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh Penguins
Jordan Staal, Pittsburgh Penguins --- winner
    Paul Stastny, Colorado Avalanche

    James Norris Trophy
    Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit Red Wings
Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim Ducks --- winner
    Chris Pronger, Anaheim Ducks

    Vezina Trophy
Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils --- winner
    Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames
    Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers
    Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks

    Jack Adams Trophy
    Lindy Ruff, Buffalo Sabres
    Michel Therrien, Pittsburgh Penguins
Alain Vigneault, Vancouver Canucks --- winner

    Frank J. Selke Trophy
    Rod Brind'Amour, Carolina Hurricanes
Samuel Pahlsson, Anaheim Ducks --- winner
    Jay Pandolfo, New Jersey Devils

    Lady Byng Trophy
    Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit Red Wings
Joe Sakic, Colorado Avalanche --- winner
Martin St. Louis, Tampa Bay Lightning

As for offseason moves, whenever Scott Gomez goes away, that's when the Devils' offseason moves begin.

As for another offseason move, does Selanne re-sign for a year with the Ducks or retire?

    Anaheim Ducks
    ==========
Jean Sebastien Giguere -- re-sign him
Joe Dipenta -- NHL/minors guy who will stay
    Sean O'Donnell -- he'll get 1 year deal, but he's staying as a cheap, dependable defenseman-defenseman
Ric Jackman -- 1-year deal or goner
Teemu Selanne -- either 1-year deal with an option or retire
    Brad May -- goner
    Shawn Thornton -- goner

The Blues better keep Jamal Mayers!

Remember the awards were voted on BEFORE the playoffs. There really wasn't that much buzz about Neidermayer getting the Norris at that time.

Lidstrom will likely take it again.

Hart Memorial Trophy - Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
Lester B. Pearson Award - Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
Calder Trophy - Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh Penguins
James Norris Trophy - Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit Red Wings
Vezina Trophy - Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
Jack Adams Trophy - Lindy Ruff, Buffalo Sabres
Frank J. Selke Trophy - Samuel Pahlsson, Anaheim Ducks
Lady Byng Trophy - Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit Red Wings

This offseason should be interesting as some teams like Buffalo will be forced to choose between resigning their own free agents and dealing away younger players. Edmonton has money to burn and a city of unhappy fans after Kevin Lowe disrespected Captain Canada.

Islanders buy out Yashin but that won't stop owner Charles Wang from forcing Garth Snow to overpay Ryan Smyth and going back after Michael Peca. Ottawa and Toronto are looking to dump disappointing defensemen Wade Redden and Bryan McCabe to free up cap space to sign another overpaid player.

Pittsburgh could resign Gary Roberts and Mark Recchi eliminating the opportunity for Sidney Crosby to skate alongside a real set of wingers. Philadelphia could go from way down in the cellar to surprising division contenders if they can acquire some top line talent to play with Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter.

    Carolina Hurricanes
David Tanabe - Likely gone unless Bret Hedican's hip doesn't heal well. Assuming Hedican's back, Whalercanes already have eight defensemen under contract.
Scott Walker - Gotta lock him up. Proved valuable after fitting in pretty quickly.
Ray Whitney - Priority to re-sign. Top point producer in '06-07 won't be off Jim Rutherford's radar ... or other teams looking to snatch him away.
Anson Carter - Up in the air ... guessing no.
Josef Vasicek - Already gone ... again. Barely got to know you again, Condor ...

Thank goodness Cam Ward has already agreed to a three-year deal. That needed to get done ... both sides made a point to not make things contentious.
