NFL writers -- Topps

At The Topps Company, we're taking a brand iconic in sports media with a rich offline tradition and building from scratch an entirely new way to connect with consumers on the web. We're a start-up within the walls of a company with 60 years of history and relationships tasked with re-imagining the Topps brand and creating a new space in the sports media universe.

We're hiring sportswriters to produce content for our new digital platforms. If you're a self-starter who loves the notion of working on a small team without legacy infrastructure and writing about baseball teams and players, we want to talk.

We're looking to staff up writers to cover the NFL for our Topps HUDDLE app for iOs devices.

Here's the position you'll be playing:
*Produce player updates and posts specific to our digital needs within the Topps HUDDLE mobile application, among other digital assets.

*Use the Topps content management system to manage your posts and evaluate success.

*Display strong copy editing skills and trust in your news judgment, from style to understanding breaking news and beyond.

*Bring an independent mindset, ready to take charge of a beat and work the constraints of that beat: late games/breaking news/posting at all hours, if necessary.

*Work closely with the sports editor, who manages content and news decisions.

These might show up on the back of your football card:
*A degree in journalism, creative writing or similar field
*Sports writing and publishing experience with school publications or other
*Deep understanding of football, fantasy sports and digital media
*A natural affinity for Twitter, Facebook and other social media
*A link to your social media presence and blog

The kind of player we're looking for has:
    *Access to iPhone and/or iPad
*A predisposition to going above and beyond to produce outsize results
*Good instincts and willingness to use data to drive decisions
    *Discomfort with the status quo
    *Comfort with change of direction
    *Bias to action

You may or may not be paid in baseball cards.

Smart move. The baseball card industry is dying, so Topps turns to ... wait for it ... journalism to try and save the company?

Might want to rethink that one.

Hey, it might be something decent, who knows. It's contract work (and for that matter, moving to freelance board right now).

But answering a Craigslist ad seems odd.

I agree, but that might be the place to attract the most candidates while giving this venture more publicity.

I sent them an email a few days ago with a few questions, and I have yet to hear a response.

I'm guessing this is an unpaid position. Just a hunch though.

I won't work for them until they pledge to bring back Stadium Club.

I hear Fleer is looking for writers for the NBA Jam Session beat, but you have to be taller than average to apply.
