I hope I'm wrong. I have a slim rational basis to believe that I'm wrong.

But that defense is bearing an incredible burden.

The defense is going to revert back to its can't-stop-anyone-on-third-and-long form often in the next six weeks. The front just doesn't get enough pressure to consistently stop QBs who don't suck. Having said that, the Bears have played well against Vick in previous meetings. I just don't see the unit holding up against the Jets, Patriots and Packers of the world. Also, it's been too long since the defensive playcalling allowed Lovie to fuck up a close game. That will happen at least twice before the season ends.

The Blitz family enjoyed representing in New Orleans this past weekend and we're looking forward to this Thursday in Dallas, when the Saints topple the mighty Cowboys.
Revenge for 2009, when they halted the perfect season.
Brees will do like Babe Ruth this week and call exactly where he'll throw the TD passes.

Dallas fans will admit if you ask them that Kitna's no Tony Romo.

The nightmare scenario is a 9-7 finish. Lovie, Angelo, etc. get extensions.

    Shitiocrity continues.

Lovie Smith: 59-47, .557 win percentage, Super Bowl appearance.

Maybe he can't take the team to the next level and you need to find someone who will, but he's not awful.

The Bears do a lot of things wrong. Cutler still makes idiotic decisons too often, there isn't a top-2 receiver in the bunch, the offensive line has gotten a little better but is still one of the worst in the league, the running backs are nothing special and the defensive backs aren't good enough in pure coverage.

But they still are good are forcing turnovers, have an excellent front-7, a consistently elite special-teams unit and Cutler is able to move them down the field with his arm in between his idiotic throws.

In the NFL, they are good enough to keep games close, and if you are good enough to do that, sometimes you get the bounces and win. They already proved that against Green Bay once this year.

The third game opens up for more teams to play on the holiday. Because with two NFC home teams in the early slots, it limits who from the AFC can play at Detroit or Dallas based on the current scheduling.

For Detroit, it's either teams from the AFC East or AFC South.
For Dallas, it's either the AFC East or the AFC West.

Next year, Dallas will play either the Dolphins or the Bills on Thanksgiving.
In 2012, Detroit will be either the Colts or Texans on Thanksgiving.

Lovie is a victim of his own success. The Bears of '05-'06 gave the fans and the city a lot of hope, but in the course of the next three years of underachieving and/or mediocrity, the insecurity and "here we go again" mentality of Bears fans inevitably took hold and Lovie has been the primary beneficiary of the change in attitude. And to that end, one of the things that really frustrates Bears fans is that, as far as they can tell, the unfulfilled promise of Lovie's early tenure seems to bother everyone except Lovie. So you add sustained disappointment to a fanbase that has been aching for a coach with "passion" and the end result is that Lovie has been a convenient punching bag. I do believe the Bears have reached the highest level they can with Lovie running the show, and he has plenty of obvious flaws, but, yes, he does not suck quite as much as the perfect storm described above would make it seem if you listen to most Bears fans.

Would you rather watch Cowboys-Dolphins and be subjected to the Leon Lett lowlight on a loop?
