I'd root for the Falcons to run the table and win the Super Bowl if it meant I didn't have to read about the 1972 team drinking champagne every season. Those guys just come off as colossal douchebags.

I think that talk needs to end. He would have had a chance at those positions if he converted long ago, like early in college, but he will never reach the skill level needed to play in the NFL. You'd be asking him to block and catch passes, two things he has never ever ever done.

I have been a Falcons fan since the late 80's.....and am rooting like a lunatic for them to do it, but talking about a perfect season is akin to The Fight Club.

    Don't.

That Packers game is still to fresh in the memory to make that kind of declaration about the Texans.

The Texans are one of a handful of teams that I wouldn't be surprised to see win the Super Bowl this season, but they sure looked exposed in that game. Plenty of good teams have bad losses, but that one was particularly bad.

  5. Which is really funny... I was just reading this http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Don-Shula-Atlanta-Falcons-1972-Miami-Dolphins-impressed-with-undefeated-team-110512.... from Don Shula ...

I know it won't happen, but I hope the 72 Dolphins' record stands for my lifetime.
Unless the Steelers break it! ;)

I loved it when SI or ESPN rated the top 10 teams of all-time and the 1972 Dolphins didn't make the cut. They had plenty of older teams represented and they made a very good case that that Dolphins team wasn't even really close to being in the top 10.

i've gained a lot of respect for the nfl's most overrated coach regarding his handling of the tebow situation. it was clear from the get-go that woody johnson was the only decision-maker who liked the idea of adding tebow, with $$$ signs and psl sales dancing in his head. sexy rexy and mike tannenbaum were strong-armed by johnson and figured whoever their no. 2 qb was going to be was terrible anyway so ok, let's get tebow, b.s. everybody about how much wildcat offensive our nur new o.c., offensive Genius (NOT!) will drive opposing d-coordinators nuts preparing for (NOT!), order westhoff to run a few fake punts to keep tebow happy, then dump him in the off-season.

halfway thru training camp the jets knew tebow was a joke as a legit qb. and they wernt about to rip up their playbook for the kid to install a college offense. they even exrended sanchez's contract with mucho more guaranteed money to placat sanchez and make sure woody backed off on pressuring then to play tebow. and ryan was firmer this week han he has been in a while that he has NO intention of staring tebow or expanding his roles by any substantial measure.

rex understands what a no-win proposition tebow represents. you cannot win games of any import consistently with tebow but if you give him some garbage-time starts and he someho wins a couple of games the tebowmania morons will be banging their drums. ryan is petrified that he'll end up like john fox, faced with starting a qb he knows he can't win with to get the tebowmaniacs -- including hs owner -- off his back. fox and elway were rescued when peyton manning became available, the one guy they could get that fans would accept not name T-E-B-O-W. hallelujah!! they had their out to dump the tebow headache and put it on someone else's head.

woody's bald head was the only on interested, other than hometown team jaguars. whose own idiot owner is the only one interested in the potential of added ticket sales. his coach and gm also don't want timmy. it'll be a miracle if the jags are stoopid enuf to give the jets as much as they gave denver a 4 and swap of later-round picks). maybe the jets will just have to release timmy, but this season certainly hasnt increased his trade value.

in that case the patriots will be rumored to be interest, since josh mcdaniel is there and belichick thinks outside of the box. but tebow will KNOW he wont be going to new england to have any more of a role than he's had with the jets. so, seriously, will ANYONE else in the nfl be willing to add tebow after seeing how he didnt fit in with the jets? 'cause the poor kid does still insist god made him to be a QB... i know nothing about the cfl these days but would he fit into ANY style of play ANY of their teams play?

    BUELLER? BUELLER? BUELLER????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

The Dolphins didn't play a game the whole regular season against a team that finished better than 8-6. They won three playoff games by one score. And most people think they dodged a hell of a bullet thanks to the Immaculate Reception.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to not put them in the Top 10. But a few years ago the NFL Network ranked them #1 of all time. That was complete bullshit.

    Here's the question...

Is Tebow good enough to play in the NFL? I think the answer is yes, as a special teams player or halfback. I think he would make almost any roster if that was the only factor involved.

But most teams don't want a halfback/special teams player who is going to create that much of a sideshow, even if it's through no fault of his own.

I think the only teams that would take a chance on him at this point would either be a team wanting to sell tickets (Jax, Oakland...) or a team where the QB is so good that there will never be any question about Tebow starting and he can quietly be a backup QB and maybe play halfback and special teams (Packers, Patriots...).

Don't understand why Tebow has to be a sideshow. Let him go to a team with a Pro Bowl QB starter and just come out and say out front he's short yardage and goal line situational QB and leave it at that (sort of like a pass-rushing specialist who only plays certain situations).

I think the sideshow comes from fans and (mostly) media wanting him to be something he's not. He can still be an effective contributor if used in the right way.

I asked this before, but do you really think he would be skilled enough at blocking and catching passes -- not to mention strong enough -- to do this? (I am assuming you mean H-back and not halfback.) There is no way.

I am starting to accept that he may not get another chance to be a starter, which I still think sucks but is somewhat understandable because of NFL roster limitations and the reality that you aren't going to build a whole team around that kind of quarterback. But if there are going to be guys like Newton and Griffin and others as the spread works its way into the NFL, I have to believe he will find a place as a backup there.
