NFL to running backs: keep your head up

    The more I look at the absurdity of some of these rule suggestions, the more I think the NFL is just trying to lay the groundwork for a future argument against damages. "We tried! The players don't want it!"

    No. It's hard, but if you start calling penalties consistently, the instincts will eventually change. I'm not saying it's wise, just possible. That's what happens with rule changes in all sports (hand-checking, contact after 5 yards, hits to the head, pitcher going to their mouth etc.). Might not be a good idea, but you can definitely change instinct.

    Bingo. There is no way the competition committee could think some of these are good ideas.
