Ah, those freedom-loving guys in the NFL.

They have more edicts than the Chinese Communists under Mao.

Would it be right to call NFL owners a cartel?

No, the NFL is a shining tribute to socialism.

I knew this would make it into this thread.

    Bravo, sir.

Mmm... smells like sarcasm. Frankly, I don't fucking care. The suit thing and all other related uniform flaps are non-issues. Hits like the ones on Houshmanzadeh and Green are.

Did you hear? Green's coming back this week. And, arguably, the Chiefs won more without him than they would have with him.

    Christ.

Dr. Z devoted a column today to the safety issue. As usual, he's spot on:

He says a lot about how the NFL is about image. The column isn't about their uniform and clothing rules, but that's another example of how image is sometimes more important than substance at 280 Park.

I read that piece and was actually just checking to make sure that doubledown is not Dr. Z. :)

Believe me.. I know me, and I'm no Dr. Z. But you're right. I read that piece too. He's on the money as usual.

The NFL has always had bigger fish to fry than uniforms. I understand that one guy can't come out in a lime green jersey when the rest of the team is wearing black. Fine.

But someone, maybe it was TO, said something last year that was accurate. Something along the lines of there are 11 guys who want to take my head off every time I get the ball, and I'm supposed to worry about whether or not my jersey is tucked in?

    Makes sense to me.

Agreed, doubledown, but, in the interest of disclosure, am I the only one who thought that Mushin Muhammad might be fined because he was wearing orange shoes Sunday night instead of the black ones his teammates wore?

It has come to a point now where I notice these things because of the silliness of the league's wardrobe rules.

Certainly not at the NBA league office.
