Well, it's simply as if you didn't put anything down this week.

Your 200 survives till next week.

This is the reason I don't make try to make a go of it by betting sports.

Sweeeet...wish I had seen this earlier but I'll join next week.

I love how the NFL makes everyone look stupid. Four road favorites? Riiiight.

Hold it. I have a problem with this.
Getting in with a full bank after the first week without taking a risk?
You should at least reduce the size of the bank of those jumping in... If you declared in before the first week and sat on the bank, that's fine. At least you made the public effort before the games.
Four weeks of the playoffs; you missed the first week, your bank goes down by one-fourth -- $50.

Some people only put up 150 this week, too.

    Same principle.

Only requirement is that 200 is wagered by the end of the playoffs.

You're right, some did. Myself included.
However, that was my choice because I got in before the first week. And if I chose to sit on all 200 bucks in the first week, that would be my choice because I at least presented myself before hand for getting in the mix.
But if you jump in after the first week, you're being rewarded for not at least publicly declaring intent. it's the equivalent of giving a slower runner a 25-meter head start in the 100-meter dash; they didn't take the same risk as the rest of the field in the first week -- even if the action was inaction, it's a choice they made just as those who bet it all..

You aren't rewarded compared with me.... or many others if the Eagles come in.

You presented this as basically a four-week risk/reward pool. If someone jumps in late and doesn't face the same risk-reward possibility over the course of those four weeks, they shouldn't get the same opportunity.
If you're late to the game, you shouldn't be afforded the same opportunity as someone who was there from the start. If I posted that I would hold my $200 on the first day, at least I'm declaring my intentions along with someone who might have bet it all.
It's not like it's real money (or that I'm going to win), but it isn't a level playing field

So... you should forfeit the 50 beans you didn't wager? and lock everyone else out, then?

No, but it's a penalty for applying late.
There's a difference between saying "I'm in, but not going to bet anything this week." and "Hey, I want in even though the first week has been played." The decision not to bet was at least made before the games were played.

If you're going to let people in next week, why lock down each week's bets? Either the whole field is locked or it isn't.

It's your game, do what you want. I just don;t view letting people in after the playoffs have started without penalty as a level playing field. They took no risk the first week -- even if that risk was standing completely pat.
