NFL coaching trees

    There was one point in the 1990s when I think 20 NFL coaches had either been assistants for Walsh, played for Walsh or coached under a coach who was a Walsh disciple.

    That's pretty amazing.

    Just a minor correction, Michael. Don't forget, Belichick kept Brady as his FOURTH quarterback in 2000, behind the likes of Bledose, John Friesz and the legendary Michael Bishop. Brady beat out Huard and Bishop as the No. 2 the next year (Huard's first with New England).

    Mizzou, Walsh is a direct descendant from the Paul Brown tree. In fact, their relationship was pretty much estranged son-father after Brown didn't give Walsh the Bengals job when he retired.

    Is Brown really considered a "running" coach? I thought Walsh credited him with coming up with the basic concepts of the West Coast offense in the 1970s.
