Think about it, Jerry Rice will be the first African-American receiver to make it in on the first ballot. That's just fucking ridiculous.

I've heard the stories about the first year Irvin went up and how quickly he was dismissed. Giving the voters the benefit of the doubt, they didn't vote for him because of his off-the-field problems and maybe that was true to a lesser extent for Carter.

It just looks really bad.

No, it is aware of what people would say. If Moon has to wait a year, the first question becomes, "Warren do you think race had anything to do with you not getting in this year?"

I forget if it was Clayton or PK who said that year they went to the meeting with no intention of voting for Moon, but wound up voting for him. A friend of mine who used to be on the committee said the same thing. He never said anything about the race issue, just "I went there and I wasn't going to vote for him, and I voted for him."
